Through JOBS !

"Jobs are what we need. Never more than today have we appreciated Bridges' focus on jobs. We are a needy people, but without jobs the need never passes!"

Lisette Casimir, Mayor
St. Michel d' L'Attalaye,
Haiti, 2005-Present

Bridges Farms occupies a large acreage located in St. Michel, northeast of Port-au-Prince.

Bridges Farms' acreage is flat to rolling, crossed by rivers, bounded on three sides by mountains and has soil that grows almost anything. One major grower has said the soil on this plateau is the best in the world for growing pigeon peas, a staple in the Haitian diet.

HOME
Founded in 1993, Bridges Farms has dedicated itself to improving the standard of living of Haitians by providing jobs through agricultural solutions to residents in the beautiful surrounding area of St. Michel de L’Attalaye at the head of the Central Plateau that stretches into the Dominican Republic. In light of the devastation wrecked on Port Au Prince 59 miles to the southwest, we are using our transport solutions that have been in place since 1993 to ferry people and supplies to Haiti and the farm, and will devote substantial acreage on our farm to aid groups and others who desperately need a secure staging area for their personnel and supplies. Our farm’s airstrip will allow supplies to be delivered directly to the farm or staging area via small aircraft.

Our greatest need right now is for monetary donations that will help us transport supplies to Haiti as well as enlarge our Adopt-a-Worker Program. We can put Haitians to work immediately helping us to provide logistics and security for the aid groups’ staging area on the farm. We can also put Haitians to work cultivating a large variety of crops including cassava, peanuts, okra, onions, tomatoes, sorghum, beets, lettuce and pigeon peas.  Every element of expansion will necessarily result in an increase in jobs and naturally result in a greater opportunity to participate in and a need for more Adopt-a-Worker participants.

Haiti’s year-round growing season allows Bridges Farms to employ workers without seasonal interruption, giving stability to workers and their families. We believe that the future of Haiti lies in the stability of the family. A stable family in Haiti is one of strong faith supported by at least one employed family member. One paycheck, it is said, normally can directly affect 40 people and indirectly affect more than 100. After the earthquake, the effect is exponential. Your donation will help us put dozens of Haitians to work today.

The power of jobs will help transform the local economy and help families not only survive, but thrive. Their future is dependent upon stable employment.
